Update #1 - Duffy Festschrift

We're now into July and it's time to report the result of the Duffy Festschrift ticket giveaway. The honour of representing the Horse and Musket Gaming community 😉 will go to the Ragged Soldier himself, David in Suffolk.

David won out against intense competition of one. He even offered up his place to anyone else who came forward who was 'more qualified' than himself. That in itself shows he was gentleman enough to enter the portals of the Cavalry & Guards Club on Piccadilly. Well done sir!

Dr Duffy has been a constant source of inspiration and knowledge for yours truly over the last 43 years, and I'm kicking myself for missing the opportunity to see the great man. Family commitments prevent that.

Hope you enjoy the evening David.

  1. So looking forward to hearing David’s account of the evening. Hurrah for him but I am vexed for you.
I’ve been reading and relishing Duffy’s books since my twenties and still find them wonderful. I would love to hear the man himself, one day…

    1. Me too. I got my first one when I was about 14/15. The one on Borodino.

  2. Many thanks indeed for this! I went along, they even let me in (!), and it was a very interesting evening. I will post an 'AAR' on my blog.

    2. funny thing was, after worrying about changing names on the ticket,in the event no-one asked to see any tickets! One only had to wander in to the building ( wearing jacket and tie of course - I chose the tie of the 1st M&S fusiliers ) and murmur the name of Professor Duffy, to be ushered into the appropriate room. It's how the Establishment works, I gather..

I too served in that regiment. These days I’m with 32R Gebergsjägers ‘Lagerhaus’.
