Now then, thanks to Ralphus posting about this http://warsoflouisxiv.blogspot.com/2022/11/battles-of-brentford-and-turnham-green.html, my social life this coming Sunday has taken an interesting uptick.
The Battlefields Trust is running two walks*, one in the morning and one in the afternoon on Brentford and Turnham Green, 1642. I know there's not much to be seen as both areas have been built over, but there's always something to learn.

There are various other upcoming events around the country in the coming weeks.
Lucky you! I expect a full report-out.
ReplyDeleteOne of the benefits of living on a small island. Will report back after the weekend.

Enjoy! Do post about it afterwards please.

I will be interested to read your reports on these walks, Chris. As you say, not a lot of the contemporary ground to see, I imagine, but that does not mean the guides won't have interesting information to impart about the battles. Turnham Green has always seemed very important to me - a bit like the Red Army turning the Nazis back 20 miles short of Moscow. If the King had retaken London, it might have altered the course and outcome of the Civil War?
ReplyDeleteCompletely! A must not lose battle for the Roundheads.
DeleteThat could be very tempting, sadly I am already 'booked up' elsewhere! So, I look forward to your report..
ReplyDeleteBattlefields Trust are thoroughly worthwhile. They do good on-line talks too, started in the pandemic but have continued since then and well-attended.
Will report back after the weekend. Will look further into the BFT.

Hope you had a good few tours given the weather forecast today. Many years ago I remember getting of a Turnham Green tube station, but was unaware of the battle that had taken place there etc.
ReplyDeleteIt was very good Steve despite the weather. Will report back later.
