Les dragons volants

I made the first airborne (horse mounted) dragoons today. Before work I sprayed the British AWI light dragoons on a folded out cardboard box. I left them on the cardboard in the garden to dry because the smell of the paint solvent is terrible.

I looked through the French doors later to spot the cardboard 4 metres away. It took a while to find all of the little figures, most of which were in a flower bed (in fact caught up in a small, dark shrub). Not easy to spot something that small and black against a dark background.

Doh! 🤦‍♂️

  1. Yeah, this has happened to me too. Glad you wrangled all of those wild stallions back into the corral,

  2. Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, the tiny ships I lost will no doubt end up in the lawnmower later this year. I feel your pain!

  3. Thanks fellahs. Glad to see I’m not the only idiot.

Like Hal Moore though, I made sure none of my boys were left behind.

  4. I wanted to spray today but with gale force winds, I decided against it, as it was too risky transporting the precious carge to and from the garage. I feel your pain at what happened but am glad all the troops returned from their unplanned forage foray!

  5. A familiar tale that's been told way too many times at my house, sir. Glad you "brought everyone home."

  6. Sounds like you have the basis of a new party game here...
I have done something similar in the garden where the wind got up and grey figures were scattered on gray stones.

  7. I fix mine to a batten with double sided tape and leave them on the shed to dry,but I have of course done something similar to you in the past!

  8. After 7 of us have admitted to the same error, we finally have proof that mankind can learn to adapt to his environment. Thank you for giving us hope Iain 😉

  9. Eliminate the hazard and use a brush?

    1. Another suggested process improvement. Now we’re cooking on gas! 👍

(Or is an induction job safer?)

Those Wofun figures have taken it a stage further and removed the need to paint job completely! Do I earn a new Six Sigma belt?

  10. Yes I can remember similar issues when base coat spraying was done outside for the same reason...now, I just undercoat with a large brush 3 or 4, and a commercial black paint test pot.....
