Year in Review - 1

As we're getting near the end of the year, and I don't expect to be doing any more painting, I thought I'd tot  up how many figures I've painted.

The total comes to 2445. Admittedly tiny little 6mm chaps, but not a bad effort. This breaks down as follows:

Punic Wars -  552 inf,   85 cav,   5 elephants, 6 staff

Mid-18thC - 1584 inf, 200 cav, 13 staff

Gratuitous shot of 110 infantry figures (2 H&R packs) in their natural state.

All of which makes me think I need to get some lead on the table. But what? Maybe a trial game with the Ancients as these have yet to appear in anger in the Kriegskabinet. And I want to get thinking about the annual NewYear campaign

  1. That’s a lot of little soldiers to paint. Good job!

    1. I’ve just had a flashback to dabbing a spot of flesh on 1200 little faces.

  3. Splendid effort!
An ancient game sounds a plan.

    1. The Ancients game will just be a straightforward bash to get a handle on the rules. Jonathan Freitag’s hex version of Basic Impetus.

  4. Chris, they may only be 6mm but it's still an impressive total......

    1. It’s mainly from 3 concentrated spells Neil. Interspersed with long periods of lethargy.

  5. Well done fella - that’s a lorra lorra lead (as Cilla might have said).

  6. Not a bad effort at all Chris, even for 6mm figures. Impressive output and quality too:).

  7. That is a lot of troops as you do a fine job with painting and basing the little figures.

    1. Ah, they’re two different things Keith. An ancients one-off game, and a WAS/SYW campaign. The last two years I did WAS campaigns with the table as the whole map and battles & sieges abstracted.

  9. At any scale that is a more than admirable amount of lead painted.

  10. You've painted an amazing number of units recently, great stuff! Those Heroics & Ros figures look surprisngly crisp and detailed - I think they must have come on a bit since I last bought from them ( 30+ years ago!). I look forward to seeing these - or the ancients - in action!

    1. I haven’t noticed any change in the SYW figures since I first bought some in c1987. Lately they’ve had more flash on them I think. Maybe be I’ve worn out the moulds 😆

  11. 101 figures are many. I didn't really thought about my problem when I bought my next sets, as I already have too many figures indeed.

It's nice to see your progress in the hobby. Cheers!
