One last post. For a while

Gonna be busy with Real Life for a while, hence the rush to get figures painted. Nowt bad, just occupied doing other stuff.  The Dutch are all based and in their magnetised Ferrero Rocher box. Just need to order the flock to finish them (and the Hesso-Brunswickers). But I'm holding fire on ordering while I think about what else I might need. Baccus and Pendraken do very fine flock which is good for 6 or 10mm figures.

As December is fast approaching, thoughts are turning towards a mini-campaign like I did the previous 2 New Year periods. Perhaps a narrower focus than previously. Something like Old Fritz's 1757 invasion of Bohemia?

But I really ought to get the new toys on the table for a battle or two before then. Maybe Minden and, as a more tricky scenario, Freiberg, so I can use the recently painted Germans and the Reichsarmee (more Germans).

18 bases (representing 9 brigades in TOTSK). There's room for 6 more bases if I shove them up to the edge of the box. I won't need that much room, just enough for a battery (1x60mm base) and a command stand (30mm sq). Just remembered I have 1 more base of infantry that I did in October, sitting in a box on their own.

Cav based on: Rechteren Horse, Gardes Dragonders (blue/red cuffs), Nassau la Leq Dragoons (blue/orange cuffs)

Dutch National infantry regiments.

Swiss regiment: unlike other armies, the Swiss seem to have been blue-coated in the Dutch army of the 1740s.

  1. Fast and splendid work, Chris! Now, how long will these Real Life distractions keep you away from the gaming table? Minden would be fun to see recreated and I have never seen Freiburg done.

    1. Maybe 10 days Jon and then it should ease off a bit.

  2. The units look great. Very impressed with the edging on their hats, you must have a steady hand.

    1. Thanks Peter. Ironically I can’t hold my hand very steady. I rest my wrist against the edge of the desk, and angle the figures at the right angle.

  3. Looking grand and should look great on the table once you decide on what flock to use. Be interested to see what battle you choose and also your mini campaign.

  4. Figures waiting patiently to be recalled from their barracks in Ferrero Rocher , that small city state we know and love. Ideal environment for them to rest in. Looking forward to seeing them in action.

    1. Ferrero Rocher grew rapidly over the years, but there are too many cases meeting claims. Will it lead to a war of Ferreron Succession?

  5. Kudos for painting the lace on the hats. You’ve done a smashing job of this lot Chris. I look forward to your blogging return.

    1. Cheers Mark. The hat lace makes a big difference for not too much effort. Makes them pop.

  6. Excellent work on those Chris and some nice close up shots too. For years I used what I think was 4mm flock for my 10mm figures, but recently bought some 2mm to replenish stock, which sort of looks better, but it does tend to lie rather flat in comparison. Probably perfect for 6mm figures.

    1. Thanks Steve. Do you sprinkle the flick from a few inches above?

    2. I basically grab a clump of flock and then sprinkle it onto the base from an inch or two higher, then lightly press it down with the end of a paint brush to make sure any nooks and crannies are covered. I leave it for a minute of two then turn upside down and gently knock to excess off. Next day I give the base a good tap to remove the remaining flock and have a paint brush to hand dust off any that remained on the figures etc.

    3. Maybe it’s the pressing down that makes it lie flat? I don’t have much of a problem with it, not that I’ve noticed any way.

  7. Great stuff Chris, the small figures really look effective en masse!

    1. Thanks Richard. It was a disciplined 2 weeks (1 for the Germans and 1 the Dutch) with a good weekend off in between.

  10. Excellent as always Chris. I dunno, less than a month since I was around the blogs and you have painted all those Dutch, plus Imperial troops and some elephants! Top stuff.
Those Ferrero Rocher boxes are excellent for small figures and other things (knives, brushes, bits and pieces) aren't they? My wife loves Lindt Lindor. Their cardboard boxes are similarly useful, but their special edition metal boxes are rooly excellent!

    1. You’re right. The Dutch don’t get much attention in this period. A lot more model them in the War of the Spanish Succession and 9 Years War.
