Retail Therapy

Fresh from the frustration of attempting to buy rice and/or pasta, I returned home to find two books I'd ordered had arrived.

Splendid stuff!
Thanks to a post by David Crook of A Wargaming Odyssey fame, I discovered that Naval & Military Press were offering some very good discounts. So an order was placed for the above two books the grand sum of £14.83 including postage. I've been tempted to get the Essex book before, so to get it for a fraction of the cover price was a real bonus.

My family might starve, but at least I'll have something to distract me.

  1. When you are quarantined, you will have some interesting reading material. "Hey for Old Robin" looks really good to me.

Stay well and don't starve the family!

    1. ‘Hey for Old Robin’ is really good in my opinion. Judged purely as a good read - I don’t know enough of the history to judge from that point of view.

  2. Looks like two good books to me,retail therapy is out for me as I am(was?) self employed and so have no income for the foreseeable future! Luckily I have a large lead pile and books I haven't read, plus eating is overrated!

    1. Hopefully the government will come good on compensating people like yourself Iain. There’s millions in the same position, either through choice or through employers trying to avoid employment overheads. Billions were magicked up for banks (arguably to save capitalism from itself) so coming up with cash for this situation ought to be achievable. At the risk of sounding dramatic, I think the economy is facing an existential crisis as it did 12 years ago. It all exposes the lie that said austerity was essential.

I hope that one good thing to come out of this is the realisation that things must change permanently once this is over. However, I don’t have faith in a significant proportion of the electorate to join the dots even when the lines have been pencilled in.

    1. 😆. That takes me back. I lived in a student house a bit like that round about the time it was on telly.

And all the best to you and yours James.
